Like Father, Like Son

In regards to who Reed looks like the most, Dane and I hear conflicting statements consistently. Some think he looks like Dane...others like me. I, for one, think he looks much more like Dane. Especially Dane as a baby. I have provided you with some pics below for comparison:

Such handsome boys.

So...what's been happening in Reed's life this past week? Aunt Devan and Grandma Lori came down to visit on Sunday. We went to Schlafly Brewery for lunch (yummy) where the waitress kept calling Reed a girl. When Aunt Devan finally corrected her she said, "Oops! It must be all that hair!" I'm not really sure how you could mistake him for a girl, hair or no hair.
He finished his antibiotics on Monday. He was taking them for an infection he had that caused a super stuffy nose and extremely gunky eye. His eye is 100% better and his nose sounds about 80% better. Good stuff. His cousin Dakota came over for dinner on Monday night. I don't have my camera with me now so I can't upload the picture I took of the two of them now. That will have to wait until my next post. Needless to say, Dakota did a great job with him and helping me and Dane out while we got dinner ready. She's such a good cousin.
Reed has continued to sleep 7-7.5 hours at night. It's awesome! He seems to be pretty happy in the morning while mom's getting ready too. We got him a new bouncer and he LOVES the animals on it (see pic above). He swings his arms around and love to hit them and watch them move.
Tonight he is going to spend a couple hours with Papa and Pat while mom and dad dine at Jim Edmunds 15 steakhouse downtown (thanks Dad!). We're looking forward to next Sunday, the 27th, when Reed will get dedicated at church. Hope that will be a very special day.

Hope you all have a good long weekend!

I Love...

I love sleep. So, imagine my happiness when Reed gave mommy the best Valentine's Day gift he could...7.5 hours of sleep! I hope this wasn't a fluke but instead another milestone!

Happy Valentine's Day to you all...and happy dreaming!

God Winks

Reed goes to what I would call a "mom and pop" daycare in our neighborhood. It's a safe place where some lovely older ladies watch the infants in the Bunny Room all day. There are no frills, no bells and whistles, but it's close to home and offered us the best tuition.
Some of our students are involved in internships at Harris Stowe State University's early childhood education center. This place is brand spakin' new and really super nice. The staff all have BA's in early childhood education, they follow a strict curriculum, have a computer lab, a wonderful outside playground...the works! And it's $250 a week. Out of our price range for sure. The couple of times I have been there to conduct site visits I have left feeling guilty that we can't afford to send Reed to such a neat place where so much learning is going on. And, to top it off, my boss, who also has a 2 month old, just started sending her son there.
Well, this morning she told me that her son had an awful first day at daycare last week. She has been having a terrible time with his "teacher" and her parent care. This teacher is super rude to both her and her husband and has done some spiteful things to them.
That being said, while I feel super bad for my boss and hope she can work something out that will bring her better peace of mind, I felt like this was a little wink in my direction from God. I felt like He was telling me that Dane and I are doing our best and He is taking care of us all. That even though Reed's daycare isn't fancy and expensive, he is safe and cared for and I feel totally comfortable calling and checking in on him whenever I desire.
In addition, my Aunt Jeanne pointed out to me the other day that God has provided me with many short weeks due to snow days and other holidays since going back to work which has made our transition into daycare much easier. Praise God!

On another note, Reed had his 2 month appointment last week. He only gained 1lb making him 12.8lbs. I'm not sure how long he is now since the measurements the nurse took were inaccurate (Reed was curved on the table when she marked it and the number she gave me was about an inch less than he was at his 1 month appt) so we'll have to wait until his next appoinment in April. He got 5 vaccinations. Ouch! He's a trooper though.

I'll end with some song lyrics that my mom liked to say that have been popping in my head a lot recently:
Just keep doin' your best, pray that it's blessed and He'll take care of the rest.

Closer to 30

Today was my 26th birthday. I am now officially closer to 30 than 20. I had a wonderful day. With the crazy weather all of us had snow days so I got to spend an unexpected day at home with my boys. I got a Kindle from Dane and was able to spend some time playing with that. It's super cool. Good job Dane!
Reed was awesome today. Not fussy at all. He must have given me a break because it's my birthday :)
As I look back at another year I can honestly say that the Lord just continues to bless me. I have a wonderful family, a great husband, a sweet son, a challenging and rewarding job, and friends who care about me. Whatever this year brings I know that the Lord will continue to provide and take care of me.
Here are some pics of the past few days at the Sample house:

Tummy Time!

Reed in his Bumbo chair working on sitting up...not quite there yet.

What a great birthday! Here's to another exciting year...
